Alison is accomplished and compassionate Community Diabetes Specialist Nurse with over 25 years of nursing experience spanning secondary and primary care. A registered nurse and an Independent Nurse Prescriber, Alison is deeply committed to improving outcomes and quality of life for people living with diabetes. After 13 years working as a practice nurse, Alison joined the CDDFT Diabetes Specialist Nurse Team, where she rapidly progressed to Senior DSN. She played a pivotal leadership role during the COVID-19 pandemic, mentoring new nurses, implementing diabetes technology such as insulin pumps and continuous glucose monitoring (CGM), and contributing to national research into hybrid closed-loop insulin delivery systems. Currently serving as Diabetes Specialist Nurse Lead across two large medical practices in Stanley, Alison has successfully integrated CGM technology into routine care for more than 350 patients, trained multidisciplinary teams in its use, and continues to lead innovative, patient-focused diabetes management programs. In 2023, she secured Burdett Trust for Nursing funding to launch Stamp Out Diabetes — a highly successful educational initiative for people with pre-diabetes and Type 2 diabetes. Alison has completed the General Practice Nurse Leadership and Elevate Clinical Leadership programmes. Her leadership, innovation, and unwavering dedication were recognised in May 2025, when she was awarded Community Diabetes Specialist Nurse of the Year at the Diabetes Nursing Times Awards.
Alison has a specialist interest in Early Onset Type 2 Diabetes, promoting best pre-conception care within primary care and tackling healthcare inequalities in diabetes care.
Outside of work, Alison enjoys fitness activities and participating in charity events supporting Diabetes UK and JDRF. She is a member of Rotary Club supporting local community projects. Above all, she values spending quality time with her family and inspiring others through her example of compassion, integrity, and authentic leadership.
