Biography

Amanda Williams is the Lead Diabetes Specialist Nurse at East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust. She is a qualified non-medical prescriber and recently completed an MSc in Diabetes at King’s College London.

Amanda is the founder of the Diabetes Specialist Nurse Forum UK, a national peer support and networking group for diabetes specialist healthcare professionals, which now has over 2,000 members. The Forum was awarded the prestigious Quality in Care (QiC) Diabetes Healthcare Professional of the Year in 2018 and was subsequently invited to Downing Street in recognition of its contribution to strengthening professional collaboration across the UK.

Amanda is the deputy chair of the Diabetes Inpatient Specialist Nurse (DISN) UK Group and also serves as Deputy Chair of the Royal College of Nursing Diabetes Committee. She is a healthcare professional advisory board member for Action4Diabetes and Help Madina, two charities supporting diabetes care in low-resource settings.

Amanda has a strong personal commitment to improving care for people with type 1 diabetes, shaped by her own experience: her son was diagnosed at the age of seven, and she herself was later diagnosed as an adult.
