Bethany Kelly, qualified from the University of Southampton in 2008. She is a multi-award-winning Diabetes Specialist Nurse and Lead Community Clinical Diabetes Specialist Nurse in Wiltshire. A non-medical prescriber, she completed her MSc in Diabetes Practice at Swansea University in 2021 and was awarded the title of Queen’s Nurse in 2024. She further enhanced her professional qualifications in 2025, completing the Advocacy and Education for Quality Improvement in Practice programme at the University of Wolverhampton, becoming a Professional Nurse Advocate.
Since 2018, Bethany has served as a Director of the Diabetes Specialist Nursing Forum UK, the year in which she was named “Healthcare Professional of the Year”. She is also Senior Clinical Tutor and module lead for the Community Diabetes module on the MSc in Diabetes Practice at Swansea University.
She co-founded @_diabetes101, a collaboration recognised with the 2021 Quality in Care (QiC) Diabetes Awards for both Collaborative Team of the Year and Heroes of the Year. In 2024, she led her current team to receive the QiC Insulin Excellence Award after a dedicated insulin safety campaign.
Bethany’s work is widely published, and she is a regular speaker at national and international diabetes conferences. She is also a national Pitstop trainer and contributes to healthcare professional advisory boards for the Diabetes Research & Wellness Foundation and Action4Diabetes. Her clinical interests include type 1 diabetes, young adult care, hypoglycaemia, early-onset type 2 diabetes, obesity, and diabetes technology.
