Trend Diabetes Committee Member & Lead Senior Diabetes Specialist Nurse, Welsh Advisor


Ravinder completed her nurse training in Swansea and qualified as a RGN in 1991. Ravinder completed the master’s in diabetes practice from Swansea Medical School in 2020 and is a qualified non-medical prescriber gained from Hertfordshire University.

Ravinder has extensive nursing experience in various settings acute nursing, primary care including Health Visitor and specialist role in blood transfusion.

She has been a full time DSN within the acute sector since 2015 working in acute hospitals in Wales and England. She has experience in project and programme management implementing ‘ThinkGlucose’ across 4 hospitals in Wales. In 2018, she led the NHS England funded North London Diabetes Transformation (DISN) Programme developing diabetes nurses across five acute Trusts in north central London, Royal Free Hospital, Barnet Hospital, Chase Farm, North Middlesex, University College London Hospital (UCLH) and Whittington Hospital. This was a quality improvement programme, recruiting and training Band 6 nurses to TREND-UK competencies. Following this, she worked in the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital as lead DSN specialising in diabetes and orthopaedic surgery.

Ravinder’s current role is lead diabetes nurse manager in Hywel Dda Health Board she is responsible for day to day running of diabetes services in acute hospitals and in community practice encompassing professional lead for primary care.

Ravinder is passionate about improving diabetes care and believes training and education is essential for nursing and medical staff to support people with diabetes. Ravinder is keen to deliver high standards in diabetes care and is a nurse assessor for the Diabetes Care Accreditation Programme (DCAP) and delighted to join the TREND committee.
