Latest diabetes guidance at healthcare professionals’ fingertips thanks to new Trend Diabetes app

The launch of a specialist app by Trend Diabetes will allow healthcare professionals working with people with diabetes to access decision-making tools and the most up-to-date recommendations at the touch of a button.

The new app will give healthcare professionals access to relevant information quickly and easily to inform their decision-making and improve the care for people with diabetes.

The new app from Trend Diabetes will provide easy to access, up-to-date information for healthcare professionals

Trend Diabetes will launch the app on Wednesday, September 1, when it will be available on Android devices. It will be made available on Apple devices in the near future.

The free app, which is designed for healthcare professionals only, will feature clinical decision tools taken from current guidelines and recommendations, including Trend Diabetes’ advice for people with type 1 and type 2 diabetes during intercurrent illness. This includes examples of illnesses which may result in hyperglycaemia or hypoglycaemia and symptoms to look out for, plus details of acute diabetes complications caused by illness.

Other information available on the app includes a decision tool based on individualised care for the glycaemic treatment of type 2 diabetes taken from the ADA/EASD consensus documents, with a particular focus on the management of people with chronic kidney disease or heart failure. The app outlines the overall approach to glucose-lowering medication in type 2 diabetes along with recommendations when intensifying to injectable therapies.

Trend Diabetes’ Co-Chair and Nurse Consultant, Debbie Hicks, said: “This new app has been carefully designed to be user-friendly and offers concise, relevant information to help healthcare professionals in their day-to-day management of people with diabetes. This provides frontline staff with the latest information and supports the ethos of person-centred care.”

Fellow Co-Chair and Nurse Consultant, June James, added: “The development of our app reflects Trend Diabetes’ commitment to harnessing the latest technology to support healthcare professionals. It is designed for a range of users, from those who are ‘tech-savvy’ to those who are looking for easy-to-access information.”

The app is the latest development from Trend Diabetes as the organisation continues to evolve to meet the needs of healthcare professionals and help them navigate and put into practice best evidence-based care.

The content of the app has been produced independently by Trend Diabetes. The sponsors – Boehringer Ingelheim, Napp and Novo Nordisk – have had no input into the content or development of the app.
